This is the best hotel for the Dollar or Euro in all of Riga. We paid about $70 per night, when city center hotels of equal quality were $150-180. The location is not the best, but it really is typical of neighborhoods outside of the Old Town. It looks rundown, but you are safer than most western cities. The streetcars are only 1/2 block away and run directly to the Train/Bus Station or to the entrance of Old Town.
The staff is by far the best we have ever met. Our flight arrived late and no restaurants were open nearby. The manager , opened the kitchen and brought us beer and sandwiches. You don't find that kind of service out of concierges in 5 star hotels.
The hotel is new and very clean. The mattresses were well above average. The elevator was not installed yet, so the owner carried our luggage up 4 floors. We offered him a tip and he would not accept it. Again, show me any other hotel where you get this type of service. The breakfast was well above average.
I like when people find a hotel at 1/3 of the cost of other comparable hotels, then complain about it. Look at the other reviews, even those who gave it a lower rating agree this is a good value. I would definitely recommend this to my friends. I plan to go back there this summer and will be staying at the Riverside.
